Portfolio Snapshot - Passive Income

Sharing my passive income for year 2021:

Total passive income dropped from the previous year. I believe this is due to the cut in dividends in the past year due to covid.

Basically, I am collecting $1299.85 in passive income monthly this year, compared to $1380.06 last year. Hope dividends will be restored to pre-covid times in 2022.

Here's what it looks like on a chart:

Roboadvisor returns: Endowus, Syfe, Stashaway, Wealthfront

Here I compare my returns on Singapore's Roboadvisors:

  • Endowus,
  • Syfe, and
  • StashAway

Only Syfe and Endowus accounts were started around the same time. StashAway was started one year earlier, and Wealthfront was started a couple years before.

I invest an equal amount of cash into each portfolio, on a monthly basis.

For the risk level on all 3 accounts, I chose the highest risk option.

Here are the returns:

Endowus General Wealth Accumulation (Time-weighted return 10.46%, started Feb 2021):

Syfe Stockpile (Time-weighted return 20.10%, started Nov 2020):

Syfe Property Purse (Time-weighted return 5.19%, started Feb 2021):

Stashaway General Investing (Time-weighted return 23.51%, started Feb 2020):

I also did an unfair comparison with Wealthfront. This comparison is unfair because the portfolio with Wealthfront was started back in Jul 2018.

Wealthfront (Time-weighted return 45.73%, started Jul 2018):

So far, Wealthfront has the highest returns, followed by Stashaway -> Syfe Stockpile -> Endowus -> Syfe Property Purse.

Perhaps I'll do an update on this every 6 months.

Meanwhile, I have been trying to set up a portfolio on DBS's 'roboadvisor' for a few months now. I have tried this on mobile and desktop. I have put in double the amount I want to invest in my bank account, thinking that it could be an insufficient funds issue. But nothing works!

Portfolio Snapshot - Breakeven Price Oct 2021

Here's another snapshot of my portfolio based on breakeven price:

The column 'price' indicates the current price of the stock.

The column 'breakeven_price' indicates the breakeven price of the stock with dividends and stocks from the distribution reinvestment plan included. As long as the price of the stock is above the breakeven price, I can sell the stock for a profit.

The column 'breakeven_price_status' indicates if the stock price is above the breakeven price.

Portfolio Snapshot - CAGR Oct 2021

Here's a snapshot of my current portfolio:

The column 'cagr' represents the compound annual growth rate of that stock.

The column 'cagr_inc_div_drp' shows the compound annual growth rate including dividends paid out and additional stocks obtained through distribution reinvestment plans.

The column 'cagr_benchmark' shows the compound annual growth rate of the benchmark. The benchmark is the SPDR STI ETF, stock code 'ES3'.

The column 'cagr_benchmark_status' shows yes if we beat the benchmark. The more 'Yes' the better. Not very impressive here, mainly due to the effects of the covid-19.

The column 'returns_one_year' shows the returns in the past one year. Mostly positive, which is not surprising since last year 2020 was the covid year.

The columns 'cagr', 'cagr_inc_div_drp', 'cagr_benchmark', 'returns_one_year' are shown in percentages.

I took up a side hustle!

 GrabFood delivery!

And believe it or not, it has worked out so unexpectedly well I had to write a post.

Here's what I enjoy about it:

  • Exercise my legs - After a long day of sitting in front of the computer, it feels really good to be able to go out to get some fresh air and exercise my legs, and at the same time get paid while doing it

  • Rest my eyes - If I stay at home I will be staring at more screens (TV/mobile/laptop)

  • Explore new restaurants - For example, I discovered 2 new Acai shops which are really popular (and really expensive)

  • Explore new areas - For example, I found a nice shortcut path between 2 areas in my town, which I previously thought had no accessibility between them

  • I have always been interested in work where there is a direct and obvious link between effort and reward. Most office jobs are not like this, where you can put in a lot of effort at work, but see no increase in performance bonus when the time comes. For jobs like delivery, the more hardworking you are, the higher reward is guaranteed 100%.
I know there is some stigma associated with food delivery, for example, rude customers and all, but the experience so far has been really positive. Everyone has been really polite, though I did encounter the occasional security guard that is really fussy about where to park your bike even when raining but that's about it.

Having said that I need to add that I am not doing this for a living, this is more for fun. I only do 1-2 trips at night after my kids' bedtime. I also have the choice of not doing it if I am tired or when it is too hot/too rainy. I understand that doing this job for continuous full days can be very tiring and unpleasant.

Otherwise, it is a great way to exercise and earn some money at the same time!

My earnings from 1 Aug till now are shown below:

Portfolio allocation - Jun 2021

The time has come for my once-a-year portfolio allocation breakdown.

Unlike the boring table form I do every year, this year I will do a doughnut chart.

Overweight on US stocks.

Was expecting a bigger dip...

Was expecting a bigger dip in the STI with the announcement of the return to phase 2... but the downturn in the middle of May now looks like just a small correction.
